Solidarity with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Great post from Matt Bernstein on the subject of the LA Dodgers disinviting the Sisters from their Pride event after some Catholics complained.
Let’s face it, our very existence as out and proud LGBTQ2SIA people offends the Catholic Church, so I’m not sure why these events have suddenly decided to throw the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence under the bus. They do AMAZING work. I read up recently about the amount of effort and community work it takes to become a full Sister. It’s a LOT: of volunteer work, event organizing, and being with the LGBTQ2SIA community.
Visit their website for the full statement about the situation with the LA Dodgers.

I’m in awe of the work they do and the way that they support the LGBTQ2SIA community.
And they’re not “culturally appropriating Catholic symbolism”: cultural appropriation is when a more powerful group adopts the imagery of a less powerful group. If you have a huge amount of cultural hegemony and enormous amounts of land, money, and bling, expect to be mercilessly lampooned and parodied.

Boycott the LA Dodgers and the Catholic Church and any LGBT+ group that doesn’t support the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
I dare say the argument over kink at Pride will arise again this year. There has always been kink at Pride; the kink & leather community has always been part of the struggle for liberation. Kinky people should be welcome at Pride. Pride is a protest and it has always been transgressive.
What a wonderful group. I didn’t know it was possible to be a nun outside of an established religion bound together by ‘vows to Promulgate Universal Joy and Expiate Stigmatic Guilt’. Thank you for sharing the link to their ‘sistory’ and raising awareness of their struggles.
