This book is outstanding. Bioethics, love, animism, shamanism, convincingly written worlds, beautiful prose, aching tenderness, and a deep connection to Nature. Also cats, David Bowie references, and orbital cylinder cities named Ursula and Octavia (because there was no need to explicitly state that they were for Ursula Le Guin and Octavia Butler).

The clever plot unfolds inexorably as Lumi becomes aware that beneath her spouse’s private side lies far more than she has realized.

The central questions of the book are, does humanity have the right to alter the ecosystems of Earth or the landscapes of the other planets in the solar system; how far would you go to save Earth’s ecosystems from the effects of climate change. Sol asks their spouse Lumi what she would give up in order to restore Earth’s biosphere and biodiversity. She never asks them what they would give up.

The Moonday Letters by Emmi Itäranta

I bought this book because one of the main characters is a they. I was absolutely hooked by the beautiful prose and by the story of Lumi’s development as a healer. The cats are also great.
