Cisalpine Gaul is upset that Transalpine Gaul said it was on the same side of the Alps as Rome.

FUN FACT: when I explained the term cisgender to some people who are actually FROM Cisalpine Gaul, I explained it in terms of Cisalpine and Transalpine Gaul, and they were immediately comfortable with it. Because of course they have zero issues with being called Cisalpine Gaul.

Cisgender is not a slur.

Cis means “on the same side”. Trans means “on the other side”. Cisgender means you have the same gender you were assigned at birth. Trans means that you have a different gender than the one you were assigned at birth.

Cisgender is not a slur.

Cis and trans are also used in chemistry to describe different isomers of the same molecule. The diagram shows two different isomers of the same molecule, one with a pair of carbon and hydrogen molecules on the same side (cis-2-butene) and the other with a pair of carbon and hydrogen molecules on opposite sides (trans-2-butene).

Here are all the Latin prepositions that can be used with direct action (accusative case in Latin grammar) of which cis and trans are members:

Cisgender is not a slur.

Complaining about being called cisgender is like complaining about being called heterosexual, or tall, or blonde, or blue-eyed.

Cisgender is a factual term.
